Guest Speaker - John David Anderson

Canadian Contemporary Impressionist

Learning how to see and learning how to look with intent to discover, has been John David’s journey for his whole life. Acquiring the skills as a painter to communicate what he has sought since beginning the journey at age 15 and copying Andrew Wyeth paintings. John David has been pushing paint around professionally, showing and teaching for over 25 years. In 1971 A.Y Jackson spoke to a bunch of keen students at the opening of A.Y.Jackson S.S. in Toronto telling them about a successful path to take in art making. That kicked off a life long passion, learning to paint colour and light with an emotional content that still invigorates the journey. “Subject matter becomes engaging because of its relationship to light. The feeling of the light in a space creates the elements of my composition shape, value and colour. That drives the idea for the canvas. Painting outside, en plein air, is where it starts…actual compositions from landscape, still life or figures provoke a response in paint driven by the light story.” He is represented by the Ethel Currie Gallery in Haliburton, the Double Doors Gallery in Anten Mills near Barrie, Rational Expressions Gallery in Stayner and Riverside Gallery, London, UK.
